Title VI and Major Service Changes Coming in August 2025 and Updates to the Sun Van COA

Sun Tran hosted a series of Title VI Open House Meetings to engage with the community about equitable transit and upcoming service changes. Riders and community members were encouraged to attend and provide feedback on the future of public transportation. During these meetings, there was also a discussion about the implementation of Sun Tran’s Comprehensive Operational Analysis (COA) and an update on Sun Van’s COA.


What is Sun Tran’s COA?

Sun Tran’s 2024 Transit COA was conducted to improve service efficiency and accessibility in Greater Tucson. Now in the implementation phase, major service changes will take effect in August 2025.

  • Routes Impacted: 2, 12, 16, 18, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 29, and 62.

What is Sun Van’s COA?

Sun Van’s 2024 COA was designed to evaluate ways to improve our paratransit service. We will share the valuable insights gained from our outreach and survey efforts and preview the upcoming draft recommendations that will help shape the future of Sun Van.

What is Title VI?

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 ensures that no person in the United States is excluded, denied benefits, or discriminated against based on race, color, or national origin in federally funded programs. Sun Tran is committed to upholding these protections by ensuring fair and inclusive transit services for all riders.

We conducted 10 (ten) community meetings to gather valuable feedback in person and online. The locations and dates are listed below:

What’s Next?

Our next steps will be to present these changes to the Mayor and Council for review. If approved, we anticipate moving forward by Summer 2025.

Transit Service Changes, Starting Feb. 23!

Sun Tran, Sun Express, and Sun Shuttle are launching new schedules and route modifications beginning February 23, 2025. Major changes include route adjustments, new stops, and revised service hours.

Major Sun Tran & Sun Express Route Changes 🚍

Route 3 & 37

Route 3 will no longer service Escalante Road between Pantano Road and Camino Seco.

Route 37 now serves Stella Road between Pantano Road and Camino Seco and it will extend service on Camino Seco between Stella Road and Irvington Road.

Route 11 & 50

Route 50 will be merging with Route 11.

Route 11 will no longer serve Sth 6th Avenue between Ajo Way and Laos Transit Center.

Riders can take Route 18 for continued service along South 6th Avenue.

Route 7

In anticipation of a roadway project, Route 7 will no longer travel west of Country Club Road along 22nd Street. Instead, the route will now travel south on Country Club Road between 22nd Street and Silver Lake Road before continuing onto Aviation Parkway.


Sun Shuttle Service Changes 🚐

Routes 401, 412, 413, 421X, 430, 440 and 450 have updated schedules.

Routes 413, 421 and 430 now include additional stops along their routes. View each route below!

Route 413

The following stops will be added to route 413 and beginning February 23:

  • Sandario Road/Marana Road (SW and SE)
  • Marana Center/Twin Peaks (NW and SE)
  • Marana Center/Encantada (NW and SE)
  • Bald Eagle/Waterbuck (NE and NW)
  • Bald Eagle/Overton (NE and NW)
  • Camino de Oeste/ Doria Drive (NE)

  • Old Father/Magee (SW and NE)

Route 421X

The following stop(s) will be added to route 421X and beginning February 23:

  • Nogales Highway/Abrego Drive (SE)

Route 430

The following stop(s) will be added to route 430 and beginning February 23:

Stuff-the-Bus for a Cause!

Sun Tran, in partnership with HSL Properties and the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, invites you to join us for the annual Stuff-the-Bus event this Friday, January 17, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 3901 East Broadway Boulevard, where we’ll be stuffing a Sun Tran bus with food donations to help fight hunger in our community.

This year, we’re setting the sights higher with a goal of 50,000 pounds of food in honor of HSL’s 50 years of community service. Last year, Tucson stepped up in a big way, donating an incredible 15,218 pounds of food and contributing over $18,000 in monetary donations.

How YOU Can Help:
  1. Drop off non-perishable food donations at our main collection site, located at 3901 East Broadway Boulevard. Take public transit! Sun Tran Routes 8 and 11 will take you there! Riders can hop off at Broadway Boulevard/Alvernon Way stops.
  2. Make a monetary donation online: Visit HERE to contribute directly.

Your generosity will help stock the shelves at the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, providing critical food support to families and individuals in the Tucson Community.

Ride to the All Souls Procession!

The Annual All Souls Procession weekend returns for its 35th year beginning Friday, November 1 to Sunday, November 3.

Organized by Many Mouths One Stomach, the weekend of public events is meant to deepen connections with the community and lost loved ones. The main procession will occur on Sunday, November 3 at 6 p.m. near Grande Avenue/Speedway Boulevard and end at Avenida del Convento.

Due to the event, Sun Tran will have a few detours for routes 3, 21 and route 22 will have an extension providing service to the procession. Please view detours and extension below for more details:

Route 3 will not be servicing stops from St. Marys Road/ Freeway to St. Mary’s Road/ Silverbell Road between 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Route 21 will not be servicing stops from Congress Street/ I-10 to Congress Street/Westmoreland Avenue between 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Route 22 will have an extension from 4 pm. to 7 p.m. Pick up will be from 6th Avenue by Ronstadt Transit Center and drop off will be on Grande Avenue/Speedway Boulevard.

Sun Link will provide service until 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 3. Remember to not stand on tracks!

Polar Express Scavenger Hunt 🚂

Sun Tran is excited to partner with Watershed Management Group this holiday season to bring you a magical evening aboard the Polar Express! Celebrate clean air, sustainability and the joy of public transportation with this fun-filled event on Thursday, December 19.

Participants will ride the Polar Express (Sun Tran bus) in several shifts, beginning at 5 p.m. Rides depart at 5:00 PM, 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM. Please arrive 15 minutes early.

🌟 Hop On at the Living Lab!

Start the journey at WMG’s Living Lab (1137 North Dodge) and board the free Polar Express (Sun Tran bus).

🍿 Stop at Casa Video

Riders will soak up the holiday cheer at Casa Video and enjoy complimentary popcorn and $1 off drinks.

🎥 Final Destination: Hotel Congress

End the evening with a screening of The Polar Express!

Holiday Cheer: Stuff-the-Bus with Sun Tran & The Salvation Army

Sun Tran and The Salvation Army are teaming up once again for their annual Stuff-the-Bus Toy Drive to spread holiday cheer to Tucson families in need. This year’s event will take place on Friday, December 13, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Walmart, located at 7150 East Speedway Boulevard.

iHeartMedia’s 92.9 The Bull, 93.7 KRQ and other local radio stations will broadcast live from Walmart throughout the day, adding festive energy to the event!

This heartwarming event not only brings joy to children but also demonstrates the generosity of Tucson residents. Donations of new, unwrapped toys for children ages 0-12 can be dropped off in person at Walmart, or made online at www.salvationarmytucson.org/stuff-the-bus.

“Sun Tran is proud to partner with the Salvation Army once again for the Stuff-the-Bus event,” said Sun Tran General Manager Mikel Oglesby. “Last year, our community donated an incredible 909 toys, including 65 bicycles, and $160 in cash contributions. These generous donations truly embody the spirit of giving and make a lasting impact on local families. We look forward to another successful year of spreading holiday cheer.”

This year’s drive aims to surpass last year’s remarkable contributions in an effort to see that no child goes without a gift this holiday season.

56th Annual Spring Street Fair: Streetcar Detour and Transit Options

Get ready, Tucson! The 56th Annual Fourth Avenue Spring Street Fair is back from March 21-23, bringing a weekend filled with local vendors, delicious food, live entertainment, and a vibrant atmosphere. Sun Link will experience temporary route adjustment starting Thursday, March 20 at approximately 1 p.m. through Sunday, March 23 to accommodate the event.
The following streetcar stops will not be serviced:
  • Fourth Avenue/ Sixth Street
  • Fourth Avenue/ Fourth Street
Getting around the street fair just got easier! Riders have two simple options to stay on track:
  1. Travel through the street fair and enjoy the festivities as you make your way to the next stop.
  2. Board the special event Sun Tran bus, which will detour around the street fair and connect you back to the streetcar route.
Where to board the special event bus:
  • Fourth Avenue/ Stevens Avenue
  • Fifth Avenue/ Sixth Street
  • University Boulevard/ Third Avenue

These bus stops are just a few hundred feet from the streetcar platforms, and easy-to-follow signs will direct you to the boarding areas. Remember to use the crosswalk when crossing the street.

  • Heading West to Downtown/Mercado? Board at University Boulevard/3rd Avenue.
  • Traveling East to Main Gate/University of Arizona? Board at Fourth Avenue/Stevens Avenue.
  • The stop on Fifth Avenue/Sixth Street stop is conveniently located near the heart of the street fair!

Leave the driving to us!

Skip the hassle of parking and traffic by taking the eco-friendly Sun Link streetcar to this year’s Fourth Avenue Spring Street Fair! Park your vehicle in any of the metered parking spots, lots or garages along the route, and then hop on the closest streetcar stop to reach the street fair. Remember fares are currently free so hop on and off as many times as you want.

You can also use routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 16, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, and 25 to travel to the Ronstadt Transit Center in downtown Tucson and then hop on the Sun Link streetcar from there!

Trick-or-Treat on Sun Link’s Spooky Train!

Families are invited to join the Sun Link Spooky Train for a spooktacular Halloween event on Sunday, October 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Fourth Avenue and Eighth Street.

This family-friendly event offers a fun-filled afternoon trick-or-treating aboard the streetcar! Participants are encouraged to wear their most creative Halloween costumes.

But the fun doesn’t stop there! Enjoy special deals from Fourth Avenue merchants all day long, and attend a costume contest at Haggerty Plaza starting at 1 p.m. Haggerty Plaza is located at 316 North Fourth Avenue.

The Sun Link streetcar is FREE, allowing everyone to easily travel between the University of Arizona, Fourth Avenue, Downtown, and the Mercado District without needing to drive. Leave the driving to us!
