Tucson’s Sun Link Streetcar connects five unique districts– Mercado San Agustín, Downtown, Fourth Avenue, Main Gate Square and the University of Arizona. The 3.9 mile route has 23 stops adorned with public art and takes about an hour to ride  round trip.

Safety, Security and Training Manager

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field, or equivalent experience, along with a minimum of five years of experience in rail safety and security, including at least three years in a supervisory role. A valid driver’s license and Public Transportation Safety Certification Training Program (PTSCTP) certification are required or have the ability to obtain.

Functions

• Oversee and enforce compliance with all safety and security regulations and coordinate with oversight agencies
• Manage corrective action plans, safety certifications and the Drug and Alcohol Program
• Develop, implement and maintain safety and security programs including PTASP and SMS
• Conduct audits, risk assessments, and lead incident investigations
• Lead emergency preparedness efforts and respond to incidents as required
• Develop and oversee employee training programs, including onboarding, refresher and emergency training
• Manage and maintain the learning management system (LMS)
• Supervise safety and training staff and support performance management
• Collaborate with internal departments and external partners on safety, security, and training initiatives
• Support strategic planning, continuous improvement efforts and risk mitigation activities

Right of Way Technician

Qualifications

Applicants must have a high school diploma/equivalent, Associate Degree preferred and two years’ experience in related field. Must have the ability to write clear and concise reports, have computer experience and be available to work weekends, holidays and evening hours.  Must possess a current and valid Arizona driver’s license.

Functions

  • Perform component and system fault diagnosis, inspection, testing, modification, maintenance and repair of assigned equipment/systems and document defects, maintenance and repairs.
  • Uses common and specialized tools/equipment to inspect, repair and maintain equipment and components such as ties, track, crossing panels, track switches, track fixation, crossovers, track frogs, aerial structures, tunnel structures, retaining walls, drainage structures, and fencing to include associated equipment and components.
  • Work in high places from mechanical lift devices, support structures, and poles.
  • Repair, replace or modify electronic and electrical components and defective parts for a variety of equipment and systems controls.
  • Manually operate switch machines under revenue and non-revenue conditions.
  • Prioritize emergency maintenance tasks in the absence of on-site supervision and assist in workload planning, prioritizing and assigning of work schedules.
  • Troubleshoot analog and solid-state electronic systems.
  • Service and maintain microprocessor control systems and inspect new microprocessor and solid state systems installed by contractors.
  • Calibrate and repair test equipment.
  • Maintain parts inventory and computer inventory records while maintaining a safe and clean shop area.
  • Operate computers for testing, diagnosing, fault log management and related data input and retrieval in addition to preparing various activity and status reports.

Streetcar Operator

Qualifications

Applicants must have a high school diploma/equivalent. MUST possess a valid AZ driver’s license, ability to pass a pre-employment physical, successfully complete training programs with post-training qualification period, successful completion of drug and alcohol testing, ability to write clear and concise reports and must be available to work weekends, holidays and evening hours.

Functions

This is a single-level classification. Streetcar Operators operate light rail vehicles safely and in accordance with a designated schedule and observe all laws, regulations and procedures. The responsibilities include performing the safe on-time operation of the Sun Link Streetcar and providing professional customer service in the transport of the public for the City of Tucson.

Training and Compliance Officer

$25.77/hr – $32.21/hr

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. Minimum three to five years of experience in rail safety, training or a related field is preferred. The candidate must demonstrate strong communication skills, adaptability and the ability to perform training in both classroom and field environments. A valid Arizona Driver’s License is required; Transit Safety and Security Program Certification is preferred.

Functions

  • Deliver safety and operations training, including defensive operations in mixed traffic, pedestrian and bicyclist awareness, intersection safety, ADA assistance, and proper use of safety equipment. Conduct refresher and remedial training as needed.
  • Lead emergency response training for collisions, derailments, medical emergencies, fire/smoke situations, disabled vehicles and passenger disturbances; assist in planning and conducting drills and exercises.
  • Develop and administer Roadway Worker Protection training for contractors and third parties accessing the right-of-way; ensure compliance with safety procedures, track clearance and work zone safety; issue and track certifications.
  • Provide security awareness training, including identifying suspicious activities, disruptive passengers, and potential threats; support TRA-aligned security initiatives and proper communication protocols.
  • Coordinate with operations and maintenance teams to ensure safe work practices; maintain records of training and certifications and support safety compliance efforts.
