More Than A Bus Company
At Sun Tran we pride ourselves on being more than just a bus company. The more than 500 Sun Tran employees are proud to be a part of Tucson and its close-knit community. Community involvement is one of the factors that distinguishes Sun Tran as an award-winning transit service, and makes Tucson a better place to call home. Below are a few community programs in which Sun Tran takes part.
Stuff-the-Bus
Since 2001, Sun Tran has partnered with KGUN 9 to host "Stuff-the-Bus" events to benefit local community service organizations. There are food drives to benefit the Tucson Community Food Bank, as well as special events to help disaster relief efforts like Hurricane Katrina and the Mt. Lemmon Aspen Fire. During the holidays, toy drives are held to support the efforts of the Salvation Army of Tucson.
Since its inception, Stuff-the-Bus events have collected the following:
- More than 102,000 pounds of food
- More than $83,000 in cash
- More than 90,000 toys and clothing items
Clean Air Days
Sun Tran is a proud sponsor of the Clean Air Days.
This event highlights alternative modes of transportation and the reduction of air pollution in Pima County. Activities to promote bicycling, riding the bus and carpooling are held throughout the month of April.
Sun Tran is doing its part toward cleaner air by taking up to 60 cars off the road for each bus in service, as well as by utilizing clean-burning fuels in the entire fleet.
Safe Place
Sun Tran is helping to keep kids safe through Project Safe Place. This nationally acclaimed youth outreach program creates a network of locations for young people who are in crisis and need immediate help. Sun Tran's fleet of buses proudly displays the Safe Place logo to let kids know they can hop on a bus and ask for help.
Sun Tran partners with Open Inn, Arizona's oldest non-profit provider for runaway and homeless youth, giving young adults access to immediate help during times of personal crisis. This partnership provides a valuable service to youth in our community.
